Wakodahatchee Trip Log
If you’ve never been to Palm Beach County’s Wakodahatchee Wetlans Park, you may want to look though my field guide here.
I arrived just as the sun was peaking over the tree line, in other words way to early for me, but just in time for the good light. The skies were fairly clear with some cumulus clouds scattered around. Upon entering the refuge, it was apparent that the day wouldn’t be nearly as bad as I had feared.
Along the entry boardwalk I found a Purple Gallilnule, foraging in the Fire Flags just off the boardwalk to the south.
To the north of the boardwalk on the alligator island was a large, probably 10 to 12 foot American Alligator sunning. Definitely, the makings of a not to bad morning. Proceeding further along the path and looking back towards the entrance there were several Double Crested Cormorants perched on tall logs protruding from the water.
